From the private notes of Lord Navigator Primus Zoltan Visscher.
Well, there seems to be something about this God-Emperor-forsaken fringe of space that keeps throwing off my calculations. And I was so sure I’d gotten the eigenvectors right this time. Maybe it’s just the lack of proper religious ceremonies that is starting to weight on me. Certainly the light of the Astronomicon seems to grow dimmer as our journey continues. Regardless, we did make good time to the location of the next nexus point: Vaporius, and only had to suffer a slightly bumpy exit from the warp.
This time around, the journey entailed nothing more than a trip up a mountain, which was blessedly uneventful apart from some cliff-side acrobatics by our Master of Ordinance. The bad news was, when we did get to the nexus point, several groups had obviously been there ahead of us. I did manage to get a solid read on that part of the star map, and we did our best with limited means to make it harder to read for the next visitors.
Next was a visit to one of the local cities, looking for trade opportunities. From the get-go it was obvious that there would be nothing much to gain from this dust-ball of a planet. The locals, although apparently human, had degenerated to an appallingly primitive and rustic society based on, of all things, agriculture and manual labor. More worrying was their “Priest-King” who, living in opulence, styles himself a god over his populace. That arrogance would have been bad enough in itself to warrant a purge of the whole city, but the man turned out to also be a powerful, unsanctioned psyker, who spits on the name of the God-Emperor and holds his agents captive.
I had the greatest difficulty holding my peace in the hovel that passes for his palace, but we finally made it out and resolved to contact the church authorities and have them do what needs to be done with this planet. Sadly, the missionary we rescued from the heathens had business to continue back planetside. I would have welcomed his presence on board.
We finally left this dust-ball for good and headed on to the next Nexus point. Apparently some kind of strange ship was spotted approaching the planet as we left. Lord Admiral Ulysses seemed quite disturbed and our warp preparations had to be rushed yet again.
